General Rules
Offense
- PLAY SIM!: We expect each member to fully abide by our rules and play the game the way it's supposed to be played. No exploits allowed.
- Game Streaming: It is every home teams responsibility to stream and post the link in the chat. If this rule is not followed it will result in immediate player suspensions, or dismissal. Every owner must archive their games as well, the instructions on how to do this are here: ffimadden.freeforums.net/thread/14/setting-twitch-account-archiving-games
- Team Switching: The only time you may switch teams is when first joining, and you haven't played a game or made any moves and a new team opens. If two owners agree to trade teams, this must be submitted in the trade approval thread for MOD review.
- GroupMe: It's a requirement you download GroupMe on your phone. It's a free app that we use as a league chat. Please try and check it every so often, we try to create a certain level of community here, we'd like for everyone to contribute.
- Game Scheduling: It is required that you supply your cell phone number for the league contact page. No exceptions. We expect everyone to at least text your opponent to schedule, if you want to send a PM in GroupMe and shout him out in the chat, that is fine as well. But texting should be the minimum amount of effort made to schedule a game.
- Quitting: We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to a member quitting a game, you will be booted.
- Absense: If you are unavailable for a game, please have to courtesy to put yourself on auto. Our MOD team has the ability to do it for you, but there's no guarantee we can get on to do it in time for your opponent to play, which leaves that owner in a tough spot. Be courteous to other owners. Games are mandatory to play, if we find someone going on auto without a good excuse, or too frequently, we will move on and find someone who can play.
- CPU Games: In the event that your opponent goes on auto, we expect each CPU game to operate under the same rules that a user game would. Stat padding and exorbitant scores will not be tolerated. You must play the game, SUPERSIM is outlawed based on crazy play and stat totals. CPU Games must be announced in the chat and streamed. You are permitted one quit against the CPU.
- Custom Playbooks: We allow each coach to create a custom book to use, HOWEVER, these MUST be balanced books. We don't want solely shotgun, pistol, etc. You must have 5 or more sets and have enough plays that will prevent repetitive playcalls throughout a game.
- Jersey Selection: If you are changing your jersey, make sure you keep the same color that was set to default. (Example: If you are the Chargers and your default for that game in the dark blue, you can only change it to a solid color, not white)
- Complaints: If you notice something about a members play, bring it to the attention privately of one of the Mods. Our Mods are listed at the top of this page. DM or Text a Mod if you have a complaint, and we will get around to reviewing it. All games are mandatory to stream and each owner is required to have the archive games feature set to on in their Twitch account (instructions HERE). How we respond is on a case by case basis, but mostly a member will get a warning to fix the issue, if they don't, they get booted. Starting a chat war isn't the right way to go about it.
Offense
- Option/QB Runs: No Quarterback UNDER a 70 speed, agility and acceleration is permitted to run a designed QB run. This is all to ensure that sim QB running is taking place at a league-wide level. NO QB SNEAKS! Still overpowered and a guaranteed score from short yardage.
- Fake Hikes: Do NOT spam. It's fine to use it to keep your opponent off balance if he's usering DL, just don't go crazy.
- Hurry Up: You are allowed one hurry up series per half outside of two minutes. If down two or more scores (9 points or more), you may run a hurry up.
- User Catching: We ALLOW user catching.
- 2-point Conversions: With the NFL's new extra point rule, we will reserve judgement on this until we see what real NFL teams do.
- HB/WR Screens: Keep these realistic. We realize sometimes the defense dictates calling a screen, but keep it to a SIM level and DO NOT ABUSE. You can not Hot Route or manually adjust any player on a screen.
- HB Runs: We expect to see a variety of runs being used during the course of a game. Each year Madden has overpowered runs, if we notice an owner relying too much on them, we will react accordingly with suspensions or removal. With outside runs (tosses, sweeps, etc) being a bit overpowered this Madden, we expect owners to be wary of abusing these. Also, if an owner is consistently breaking inside runs outside, this is seen as abuse. If the holes aren't there, that's one thing, but it shouldn't be done often.
- Motioning: When motioning any player, you must wait for them to set before hiking the ball. Once you motion a player, he must stay there.
- Quick Hiking: Please give a second or two before hiking so the defense can make adjustments.
- FB Dives: FB runs are banned on 3rd and 2 or less, and any 4th down. You may NEVER line a HB up in a FB spot.
- Milking The Clock: You may only milk the clock when there are two minutes or less in the half or end of the game. EXAMPLE: Do not run the play clock to under 10 seconds every play.
- Play Calling: Don't be one-dimensional. We expect every team to mix up their play calls. Even the most pass happy offenses run the ball, and vice versa. Don't run the same plays, mix up your calls in every facet of the game.
- QB Dropbacks/Rollouts: Dropbacks more than 10 yards or instant-sprinting after a hike are NOT allowed. You must also not roll-out and wait for receivers to break off their routes or for a defender to leave his assignment. Once you reach the numbers, you must either throw, run or throw out of bounds.
- Goal-line Formation: You are only allowed to run goal-line inside your opponents, or your 5-yard line.
- Score/Stat Padding: If we find out you are running up the score, or running unnecessary plays to boost your players stats, it will result in player suspension or possible dismissal from the league. Once you have a big lead in the 4th (21+ points), you should be looking to run the clock. You don't have to run, but you should be trying to keep the drive alive and running clock. Do not try for big plays.
- 4th Down:
You may go for it on fourth down:
- On your opponents side of the 50 when it is 4th and 3 or less.
- Anytime on your opponents side of the field in the second half while down 14 or more.
- Anytime while losing by 14 or more in the 4th quarter
- Anytime late in the 4th where its obvious that you can't give the ball back.
- FB and QB dives are NOT allowed on 4th down. - Mercy Rule: We expect everyone to operate under the rules of being sim and being respectful to your opponents. If we deem your actions late in a game to be disrespectful in any way, or trying to just put extra yards or touchdowns on your players stat line without the goal of running clock, we will deal with you through suspensions, or if a repeat offender, removal from the league. This goes for losing teams as well, if you are losing big late and just calling timeouts to be spiteful, or to prolong the game, you will be dealt with as well. Neither scenario gives the other the right to break this rule.
Defense
- Nano Blitz: If we find out or see of any nano blitzing, it will result in an immediate boot from the league.
- User Catching: We ALLOW defensive user catching.
- Safety Movement: You may move one safety (not both) presnap, as long as it is not excessive and unrealistic (i.e moving safety around like a chicken with its head cut off). The safety must stay in the linebacker box, not brought up to the LOS (unless in a mass defensive shift)
- D-Line Movement: You are NOT allowed to manually move any defensive lineman presnap. You may use the group shift feature as you see fit.
- LB Movement: You may ONLY move a LB if you are controlling him.
- Play Calling: Mix up your man and zone calls. We know that personnel dictates how much man or zone you should call, but keep it to no more than an 80/20 split in the most extreme cases.
- Pass Rushers: You must rush AT LEAST 2 defenders every play. Contain and spies DO NOT count as a rusher.
- Press Coverage/Show Blitz: You may only press and show blitz once every set of downs.
- Blitzing: This should be done in a sim fashion. Engage eight and other mass blitzes should not be regular calls. Blitzing should not be done every play either.
- Personnel: NICKEL may only be called in sets with 2 WR's or more. Dime/Dollar/Quarter defense can only be called in sets with 3 WR or more.
- Run Commit: Run commit is NOT ALLOWED under any circumstances.
Special Teams
- Onside Kick: You may only attempt an onside kick in the 4th quarter, down 10 or more with 6 minutes or less remaining. Or down any score with 2 minutes
remaining. - Fake Punts: You are allowed ONE per game. You shouldn't be running fakes every game though.
- Punts: Line drive punts are not allowed
- Kick Arc: This must be turned off
